This classic television commercial depicts a son returning home after a long absence. He is collected by his father from the train and footage cuts into the journey home and the preparations in the house by his mother, highlighting electricity at work; lighting, water heating, cooking and heating.  Advertisement ends with the slogan, ‘Electricity brings living to life.’

The brief behind the commercial was to show how electricity and electrical appliances enhance the quality of life, while having a strong emotional appeal. ‘Going Back’ was the third in a series of ESB advertisements, which included ‘Baby’ and ‘Dance.’ The first transmission of the television commercial was 14 October 1988.
