New pamphlet library: 1920s-30s

Leading on from last year’s launch of our rural electrification pamphlets, we are delighted to launch a similar online library of pamphlets published in the 1920s and 1930s to publicise the benefits of electricity during the rollout of the Shannon Scheme. Click here to view all Shannon Scheme pamphlets.

Our featured pamphlet, ‘Aids to Beauty in Distress’, was the first of a series of pamphlets published by ESB’s public relations department in the 1920s.

It outlines ‘the path to the home of a hundred comforts’, which begins with one step — the acquisition of an electric iron.
