Lisdowney is in Co. Kilkenny by the way!
Hi Sarah, thanks for contacting us – while the town of Lisdowney is indeed in Co Kilkenny, the ‘Lisdowney Rural Area’ covered both counties Kilkenny and Laois. Rural areas were typically 25 square miles in size, and the boundaries and name of each were based on local parishes rather than geographical location. You can read more about the rural area here: https://esbarchives.ie/2016/03/30/rural-electrification-of-lisdowney-co-laois-in-1962/
